Davao City Prepares for 80th Araw ng Dabaw

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Monday created a committee that will oversee the city’s celebration of the 80th Araw ng Dabaw festivities.

Through Executive Order No. 3, Mayor Duterte ordered the creation of an executive commitee, of which she leads as Mayor. However, due to her delicate pregnancy, the position will instead be filled in by City Administrator lawyer Zuleika Lopez. It will be co-chaired by Saging Repablik’s Renato Gatchalian, who also is the President of the Davao Tourism Association, for private sector.

Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte was named Vice-Chairperson while the members include City Mayor’s Office Chief of Staff Atty. Raul Nadela Jr., City Tourism Officer Regina Rose Tecson, Asst. City Administrator for Administration Atty. Tristan Dwight Domingo, City Accountant Vingelina Bajan and Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre.

The Executive Committee will plan and coordinate programs, events and activities for this year’s celebration, which also encouraged greater participation from private sector organizations. It is also tasked to find ways to support the effective implementation of the activities planned.

Funds to be used for the celebration will come from private sector, along with budget from the City Tourism Office and the City Government of Davao.

Mayor Inday said she also wanted the event to be promoted both locally and internationally through various media outlets, to ensure optimal participation of visitors and tourists.
